2019 #DTJax Awards: Michael Carpenter, Downtown Ambassador of the Year

The Downtown Ambassador of the Year award recognizes a Downtown Ambassador who continually goes above and beyond in their work to advance the mission of the Downtown Ambassador Program: to keep Downtown a clean, safe, and hospitable environment. This year, the award is going to an individual who has been an essential member of the Downtown Ambassador Team for the past four and a half years years: Michael Carpenter.

Originally from Birmingham Alabama, Michael has a background in construction. While working Downtown, he was spotted and recruited for Downtown Vision’s Ambassador program for his positivity and motivation. Hired as a Clean Team Ambassador in April 2015, Michael is one of the most outgoing Ambassadors on the team.

Michael starts his day at 4:30 every morning and walks to Downtown each day from his home in the historic Springfield district. He’s always willing to go above and beyond to help Downtown’s visitors, residents and employees.

When the Jacksonville Transportation Authority partnered with Downtown Vision to add Ambassador services to the Skyway during peak hours, Michael was quick to step into the new role. He can be found on the Skyway platforms every weekday morning and has become a familiar, friendly face to riders.

Michael consistently generates positive community feedback for the Downtown Ambassador Program and the Skyway. His achievement of becoming the 2019 Downtown Ambassador of the Year is no doubt well-deserved.
