Before the Acosta, Main Street or Hart bridges, there was this one.
The Florida East Coast Railway Bridge is the oldest bridge over the St. Johns River, and itโs still on the job. Henry Flagler opened the first rail bridge here in 1890. The bascule bridge we see today replaced it in 1925, designed by the same engineer who went on to build the Golden Gate Bridge.
A century later, freight trains still rumble across this little piece of #DTJax history hiding in plain sight!
