PlacemakingJax is Downtown Vision Inc.’s award-winning activations initiative, recognized nationally for its collaborative approach to reimagining underutilized spaces in Downtown Jacksonville. Through an open call for ideas and a hands-on placemaking school, residents are trained to participate directly in downtown development.
Spearheaded by Downtown Vision, this community-driven program provides top-down support for grassroots efforts by partnering with local community champions—residents who lead projects—offering permits, funding, and technical expertise. These champions create pop-up activations in parks, vacant lots, and storefronts.
By transforming these spaces into magnets for foot traffic, PlacemakingJax enhances quality of life, strengthens a sense of belonging, builds social capital, and creates opportunities for self-employment, benefiting both project teams and the wider community.
This holiday season, we invite you to support Downtown Vision’s mission to create and support a vibrant Downtown Jacksonville. From November 1 to December 31, your online donation to PlacemakingJax will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund—doubling your impact to help residents transform public spaces into vibrant community places.
$25 Donations cover one hour of event staff.
