PlacemakingJax is a highly collaborative process for the people of Jacksonville to engage in the creation of pop-up activations or large-scale interventions in Downtown Jacksonville to transform underused public spaces into celebrated community places. PlacemakingJax is facilitated by Downtown Vision and funded in part by the #DTJax Gala held each February.

In Downtown Jacksonville’s Business Improvement District (BID.) In places where the public can gather: sidewalks, alleyways, vacant storefronts and green lots, public parks, parking lots, streets or the riverfront. Together we can transform publicly-accessible spaces into vibrant places where people come together in a diverse range of ways. While temporary in nature, together we can impact permanent change.
PlacemakingJax projects begin with Jaxsons who have ideas for a more vibrant Downtown Jacksonville. These resident-led projects are made possible by a strong collaboration between community partners, city agencies and funders. The vision behind the program is to open doors for residents, artists and neighborhood groups to come to the table and be creative in addressing community needs and aspirations.Â
Our Placemaking Taskforce will meet to provide feedback on the applications and support the placemaking process. The group has been created to ensure this is a truly citizen-led process. Our pilot year consisted of 29 members which has, this year, grown to a group of 78 members. Our meeting room only holds 40 people, so we run the same meeting twice!

Please Note: Taskforce members are not disqualified from applying, but are unable to provide feedback on their specific project application(s).
