Small Business Spotlight: J. Lea Florals | Jess Ferguson
An eye for natural color can sprout like any other talent — by trying something early and receiving support from family and community. Over time, that talent blossoms into an opportunity so meaningful it demands a full commitment. Jessica Ferguson has done just that with her shop, J. Lea Florals, located just a block from City Hall. This October marks two years since she moved into her current Downtown Jacksonville space. Before establishing her storefront, Ferguson ran the business out of her home.

“It was my first job,” she said. “When I was 15 in high school, I started working at a flower shop in Orange Park, so it was all I had ever known.” Shortly after, her sisters asked her to design florals for their weddings. It was then she decided to turn her passion into a business.

Now entering a busy wedding season, Ferguson focuses on making every client feel celebrated and welcome. “A special part of my business is that I cater to the LGBTQ community,” she said. “Being gay myself, that’s something I like to focus on — to make sure everyone feels welcome here.”
Bridal bouquets are at the heart of her work, often inspired by spring colors and scents. Still, Ferguson provides flowers for any occasion that calls for a touch of natural beauty.
J. Lea is a small, intimate shop where Ferguson has maximized every square inch. From the hand-painted flowers behind her sitting area to the shelves lined with wedding props and containers, the shop reflects her artistry and offers a warm welcome to anyone seeking Downtown’s floral specialist.
