Spring Starts Here: Kid-Friendly Fun in DTJax

Springtime is here, and DTJax is full of family-friendly ways to enjoy the season. This spring’s itinerary is packed with fun activities to get the kids out of the house. Whether you’re visiting Downtown Jacksonville or live nearby, you’ll find plenty to explore together.

Cool Down at Riverfront Plaza’s Splash Pad

Temperatures are rising as we head into April! Downtown Jacksonville has the perfect way to chill out under the Florida sun. The new interactive splash pad for kids at Riverfront Plaza has you covered. The play area is designed to allow you to control the flow of water by interacting with the many structures, buttons and gadgets throughout the park. Don’t forget to grab lunch from The Court Urban Food Park steps away on Hogan Street, there are many locally owned food trucks to choose from. Open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Weekday Candy Making Classes at Sweet Pete’s Candy

Looking for a sweet treat to escape the heat? Sweet Pete’s Candy is offering 30% off candy-making classes this spring! Picnic Lunch at RiversEdge Park

Enjoy the sunny weather over a packed picnic lunch at the brand new RiversEdge Park! There are picnic tables available to fit the entire family. RiverEdge Park has four main park spaces; Heartbeat Park, Central Park, The Gym and Healing Garden Park. The park was designed to bring connectivity to the community by creating a local space for relaxation, play and support active lifestyles.

Creative Kids Drop In at Cummer Museum

The ultimate after-school activity for your child is the Creative Kids Drop-In at the Cummer Museum. Every tour is carefully curated each day. Kids will experience a guided tour exploring galleries and art installations. Afterward, the little ones will let their creativity flow with hands-on projects in the studio! Tours take place once a month after school at 4 p.m. in May, August and September for grades K–5.

Exploring the St. John River Park

A great way to get scenic views of Downtown Jacksonville is by visiting Friendship Fountain at the St. Johns River Park. The fountain has light and water displays nightly at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Also at the Fountain is “La Trinité,” a history-themed pirate ship playground. If you get hungry while you’re out, Ruth’s Chris is a short walk along the Southbank Riverwalk, as well as Chart House.

Art and Education at the Main Library

Step into the Main Library on Laura Street and explore one of the city’s most beautiful historic spaces. Browse the stacks, admire the architecture and pick out your next great read. Next, head to the third floor to check out an exhibit of Jacksonville landscapes by artist Teresa Cook. The exhibit is open March 17th through April 30th, 2026. Head into the Main Library anytime, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Library is closed on Sundays.
