Jeff Goodell, New York Times bestselling author of The Heat Will Kill You First and other bestselling environmental non-fiction and longtime contributing writer for Rolling Stone will be live in the Conference Center at the Main Library on Saturday, May 18 for a free Lit Chat author talk. Goodell will be interviewed by award-winning author and Emmy Award-winning producer Nikesha Elise Williams. This program is in partnership with the St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Jacksonville Climate Coalition.

Mr. Goodell’s book and the Lit Chat author talk address an issue that is so important to Jacksonville. Rising temperatures from climate change impact all of us and every aspect of our society and environment,” exclaims Jimmy Orth, executive director of St. Johns Riverkeeper. “Studies indicate children don’t learn as well, more crime occurs, workers are less productive, and health problems worsen when it is really hot. Rising water temperatures can lead to fish kills, toxic algae blooms and more powerful storms and hurricanes. Talking about heat and climate change is critical to finding solutions.”

While The Heat Will Kill You First presents a frightening glimpse into the future of our rapidly warming planet, Goodell also focuses on solutions,” says Lori Ann Santamaria, chair of the Jacksonville Climate Coalition. “This Lit Chat author talk provides an important forum for the community to come together to learn about the impacts of heat and climate change and discuss the pathways to a more sustainable future.”
