Viola’s Dialogue: Intimacy and Fire
A program that explores the full expressive range of the viola—from its introspective poetry to its passionate fire—through three rich and contrasting works. The concert opens with Rebecca Clarke’s monumental Viola Sonata, a cornerstone of the viola repertoire. This deeply emotional and technically demanding piece captures both fiery intensity and quiet vulnerability, showcasing the instrument’s remarkable ability to carry a dramatic and personal narrative.
At the center of the program is Max Bruch’s Eight Pieces, a deeply rewarding work for clarinet, viola, and piano. Each miniature presents a vivid sound world—lyrical, tender, playful, and profound—while collectively forming a compelling journey through shifting moods and textures. The work celebrates the essence of chamber music, where intimate dialogue and spontaneous collaboration take center stage.
The program concludes with Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango, an exuberant and sultry showpiece filled with irresistible rhythms and colorful energy. Originally written for cello and piano, this arrangement for viola brings a bold, tango-infused spirit to the finale.
Yun-Ting Kuo, Principal Violist of the Jacksonville Symphony, leads the program with depth, artistry, and expressive clarity. She is joined by Ting-Ting Yang, an internationally invited collaborative pianist and versatile artist whose work bridges performance, composition, and education. Completing the trio is Giovanni Bertoni, Principal Clarinet of the Jacksonville Symphony, known for his lyrical tone and captivating musicality.
Together, this trio offers an evening of musical conversation—sometimes whispered, sometimes fiery, always heartfelt.
